Call for Scores 2026
Music Around the Corner was founded on a dedicated mission: to celebrate Canadian classical music and showcase Canada’s exceptional musicians.
Building on the success of our program established in 2025, our 2026 Call for Scores invited emerging Canadian and permanent resident composers to share their music with our community. Three selected composers had their works professionally recorded and premiered live as part of our Summer Concert Series.

Call for Scores – 2026 Selected Composers Announcement
We were truly moved by the number and quality of submissions we received from emerging Canadian composers across the country. Choosing from such a rich pool of creative voices was no easy task and we were so impressed that we decided to select three works instead of two.
Each selected composer received a $250 CAD prize, a professional studio recording, and a live performance at our August 2026 concerts.

About the composers:
Born in Ottawa, Shanti Sivarulrasa is a composer and violinist based in Almonte, Ontario. She is currently pursuing a Master of Music (M.Mus) degree at the University of Ottawa on a Special Merit Scholarship. Shanti is pursuing a concentration in composition under the tutelage of Dr. Dinuk Wijeratne. She holds a Bachelor of Music (B.Mus) degree from Dalhousie University where she studied composition with Dr. Jérôme Blais, Dr. Matthias McIntire, and Amy Brandon. Shanti is the co-founder and co-creative director of the Nuovo Concert Series, a series dedicated to showcasing new works by emerging Atlantic-Canadian composers.
Patrick Wu is a Taiwanese-Canadian composer, violinist, and multimedia artist whose music spans neo-romantic lyricism to experimental soundscapes. He is an Associate Composer of the Canadian Music Centre and a doctoral candidate at the University of Toronto.
After an early career as a classical guitarist, Simon Rivet turned his interests toward writing music for concert, film and dance. Following a 3-year period of solitude living in a cottage by a small and quiet lake, his music has found inspiration from the surrounding nature, and laid down its roots in the poetry of colorful harmonies, subtle orchestrations, and the integration of space/silence. As an emerging composer, his recent chamber music and orchestra pieces have received recognition from various international competitions. His work is a contemplation on the underlying forces of nature, and, consequently, on humanity’s own internal forces. It is an invitation to stop, open and connect oneself with one’s deeper dimension ; to enter one's “silent sanctuary”.
