Canadian Music Centre August 2024

Location

20 Saint Joseph St, Toronto, ON M4Y 1J9, Canada

Date

August 21, 2024

Opening with Canadian composer Dinuk Wijeratne's 'Two Pop Songs on Antique Poems', a humorous and highly referential modern classic, the hour-long show will cumulate in a performance of Franz Schubert's iconic and fiendishly difficult 'Death and the Maiden' quartet. A unique seating arrangement around the quartet means that every seat in the house is the best seat. This will bring you closer than ever to a collection of museum-worthy instruments, including a 1717 Stradivarius and a Chanot violin on loan from the Canada Council for the Arts, and a priceless Tononi cello, played by some of the best young musicians from Canada, all of whom are embarking on international performance careers.

Musicians:
Emma Meinrenken and Astrid Nakamura, violin
Toby Winarto, viola
Matthew Christakos, cello
